2022 Vinification Notes

The 2022 vintage was the second consecutive year of La Niña conditions. Compared to 2021 it started earlier, finished later and was cooler overall. After a slow spring, things warmed up in November and the shoots finally took off. Flowering was complete just prior to Christmas and a burst of warm to hot January weather got things back on track before the weather moderated again and we experienced a slow ripening phase into April.

Yields were a little up on average this vintage with a little over two tonnes of perfectly ripe fruit. A light saignée was performed within a day of harvest. Fermentation was undertaken with whole berries and around 10% whole bunches. Two cuvees were basket pressed after 18 days and a third small cuvee after 25 days. The resulting wine matured for 14 months in a combination of new (20%) and used Sirugue oak barrels. The finished wine was bottled in late September 2023 under gravity and without fining or filtration.
